Question 1

How does the free in-home estimate work?

Accepted Answer

You call or send the form, we set a time, and Pat or a team member comes to your home. We listen first — what's wrong with the room, how you use it, what you want it to become. Then we laser-measure the space, talk through honest options and ranges, and follow up with a clear written estimate. No pressure, no 'sign tonight' discounts, no three-hour pitch.

Question 2

Do I need to know exactly what I want before you come out?

Accepted Answer

No. Most homeowners just know the bathroom isn't working anymore. Part of the visit is helping you sort out what actually fits your room, your needs, and your budget — including telling you when a smaller project would serve you better than a bigger one.

Question 3

Do you serve my town?

Accepted Answer

We work within roughly a 60-mile radius of Toledo — Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, from Findlay and Defiance up through Monroe, Adrian, Saline, and Ann Arbor. We do not serve inner-city Detroit. Check our service-area pages or just ask.

Question 4

Will anyone pressure me to sign during the visit?

Accepted Answer

No. High-pressure, sign-tonight sales tactics are exactly what we built this company to be the opposite of. You'll get a written estimate and the time to think it over.

Question 5

How much does a bathroom project cost?

Accepted Answer

Most of our projects land between $8,000 and $18,000, with a typical project around $12,000. Wet-area-only updates come in lower; full-bathroom scope, moved plumbing, and barrier-free entries come in higher. Our pricing page breaks down every driver honestly.

Question 6

Why do quotes vary so much between companies?

Accepted Answer

Mostly because of what's behind the walls. A low quote often means a liner over the old tub or panels over bare drywall — problems deferred, not solved. Ask every bidder what backing board they use in the wet walls. Our answer: moisture-proof backing, every wet wall, every job.

Question 7

Is the estimate really free? What's the catch?

Accepted Answer

Genuinely free, no catch. We spend the time because homeowners who understand their options make good decisions — and good decisions tend to come our way.

Question 8

Do you offer financing?

Accepted Answer

Ask us at your estimate — we'll walk through what makes sense for your project and budget.

Question 9

What if you find hidden damage mid-project?

Accepted Answer

We stop, show you photos, and give you a written price for the repair before continuing. You'll never get a surprise number on the final invoice.

Question 10

How long will my project take?

Accepted Answer

It depends on scope, so we give every homeowner a written range at the estimate rather than a slogan. Wet-area-only projects are the quickest; full-bathroom scope takes longer. What we promise flat-out: once we start your job, we stay on it until it's done.

Question 11

How long will I be without a shower?

Accepted Answer

We sequence tear-out and build to make that window as short as possible, and we tell you the expected window in writing before we start — especially important in one-bathroom homes.

Question 12

Who actually does the work in my house?

Accepted Answer

The Custom Baths of Toledo crew — the same people you'll meet along the way. You won't have a rotating cast of strangers in your home.

Question 13

Do you clean up every day?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Floor protection down, dust contained, tools organized, broom-clean at the end of every workday. Your house stays your house during the project.

Question 14

What do I need to do before you start?

Accepted Answer

Clear out cabinet and counter contents in the bathroom, make a path from the door, and plan for the shower-outage window we give you. We handle the rest, including haul-away.

Question 15

Can my tub really be converted to a walk-in shower?

Accepted Answer

Almost always, yes — including in the tight five-foot bathrooms common in older Toledo-area homes. The laser measure at your free estimate confirms exactly what fits.

Question 16

Should I keep one tub in the house for resale?

Accepted Answer

If you have a second bathroom with a tub, convert away. If this is your only tub, we'll talk honestly about your neighborhood, your timeline in the home, and the trade-off — sometimes keeping a tub is the right call, and we'll say so.

Question 17

What happens to the old tub?

Accepted Answer

We haul it away and dispose of it properly — including the 300-pound cast-iron ones on the second floor. That's part of the job, not an add-on.

Question 18

Is acrylic cheaper than tile?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes on installed cost, and dramatically yes on lifetime cost — no grout to seal, scrub, or repair. Our acrylic-vs-tile comparison page runs the honest numbers side by side.

Question 19

Will acrylic walls yellow or crack?

Accepted Answer

Quality panels installed over proper backing won't. The yellowing and cracking people remember comes from thin bargain panels and liners installed over old tubs — which is precisely what we don't do.

Question 20

What's behind the panels?

Accepted Answer

Moisture-proof backing board on every wet wall — never bare drywall. It's the single most important thing in the whole shower, and it's invisible, which is why cut-corner crews skip it. We never do.

Question 21

Can you make a shower safe for a parent with a walker?

Accepted Answer

Yes — that's a barrier-free (zero-threshold) entry with a seat, grab bars in solid blocking, a handheld head, and slip-resistant flooring. The floor slopes to the drain so nothing has to be stepped over. It's one of the most meaningful projects we do.

Question 22

Do grab bars have to be planned before the walls go up?

Accepted Answer

Ideally, yes. Bars must anchor into solid wood blocking behind the wall, and the right time to install blocking is when the wall is open. If you think you might ever want bars, tell us at the estimate — blocking costs almost nothing during the build and a lot after.

Question 23

My bathroom is odd — sloped ceiling, old plaster, weird angles. Will you take it?

Accepted Answer

That's our specialty. The rooms other contractors walk away from are the reason this company exists. Bring us the weird one.

Question 24

A previous contractor left my bathroom half-finished. Can you rescue it?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we take over abandoned projects regularly. We'll assess what's salvageable, what has to be redone to meet our standard (especially anything sealed up without proper backing), and give you a written plan to finish it right.

Question 25

Do you do full home remodels or additions?

Accepted Answer

No — bathrooms are what we do, which is why we're good at them. For work beyond the bathroom, we're glad to point you toward the right kind of contractor.
